Lidl Christmas sales up 11%

Lidl UK said its overall sales increased by 11% year-on-year over the Christmas period.

It cited the latest figures from Kantar WorldPanel, which said that customers switched £110m worth of spending over to Lidl  over the 12 weeks leading up to 29 December.

The retailer singled out its beers, wines and spirits range, which saw a growth of 13% year-on-year for the 4 week period to 29 December.

Lidl plans a footprint of 1,000 outlets by the end of 2023.

In October it revealed plans to  spend £15 billion over the next five years sourcing and procuring from British suppliers. The same month it also commenced operations at its £70 million, 629,689 sq ft, distribution centre in Eurocentral, Motherwell – its largest site to date in Great Britain.
