Lidl commences operations at £70m Motherwell DC

Lidl has commenced operations at its £70 million, 629,689 sq ft, distribution centre in Eurocentral, Motherwell – its largest site to date in Great Britain.

The site will support Lidl’s store estate across Scotland, which currently stands at 99 and is set to reach 100 by the New Year.

Planning has begun on the creation of a further 12 stores in Scotland over the next three years, all of which will be serviced from the Motherwell site.

Some 600 employees were relocated from its previous facility in Livingstone

Lidl GB regional director for Scotland, Ross Millar said: “The warehouse underlines our commitment to creating more jobs for Scotland and I’d like to extend my thanks to both store and warehouse colleagues, who’ve worked so hard to get us to where we are today.”

The supermarket is also planning on opening a further four warehouses in Bolton, Peterborough, Luton and Leeds by 2025.
