Lidl’s growth plans

Lidl is to create 300 new jobs in Scotland over the next 18 months as part of its expansion plans as the demand for its products continues to grow.

Lidl’s growth plans include opening five stores in Paisley, Dumbarton, Giffnock, East Kilbride, Edinburgh. Each is due to create up to 40 jobs in their respective communities. The food retailer is also planning to renovate and build extensions for its Scotland branches, including Glasgow, Motherwell, Aberdeen and Ayr.

Lidl’s regional distribution centre in Eurocentral will be operational in 2019 and will also provide an additional 100 jobs. A further 250 jobs will be created as the warehouse reaches full capacity.

Kantar Worldpanel data from June showed Lidl to be only bricks and mortar retailer in the UK to experience double-digit sales growth, at 10%. Regional director for Scotland Ross Millar said that Lidl is “delighted to be in a position to create new jobs and welcome even more colleagues.”
