Linz airport opens Fracht 5-terminal
EUR 6 million-investment: New cargo terminal at Linz airport marks expansion by 6,400 m² hall and office space
On October 17 the blue danube airport linz inaugurated its fifth freight terminal. The new building built with a total investment of EUR 6 million is responding to the growing air cargo business at the airport of Upper Austria’s capital. The business unit is acting worldwide under the autonomous brand www.aircargocenter.com
The core piece of the new terminal is the cargo hall equipped with 12 loading docks and two ramps, and a total storage and manipulation area of 2,900m². The office building covers 1,800m². In the course of the new building project, another 1,700m² of general area and area in reserve have been developed, thus the total building project covers 6,400m². The new facility is rented and used by the forwarding companies ACS Logistics, cargo-partner, Gebrüder Weiss and UTi Logistik.
In his opening speech DI Gerhard Kunesch, managing director Flughafen Linz GesmbH, emphasised on the top position of the Linz airport as Austria’s biggest regional airport. “The cargo segment is our second-biggest pillar, which has been developing brilliantly. The new terminal gives us space for further growth“, he disclosed. He also referred to the location as a real alternative for other European air freight hubs.
All services associated with air cargo handling are provided in a full-service package at the now more than 23,000 m² Air Cargo Center at Linz airport. In addition to the physical handling, also documents for import, export and transfer of cargo are handled at the site. Furthermore, the issue of transport documents and the completion of all customs formalities are fixed points in the service range. The handling also includes transhipment of special cargo such as hasardous, express cargo, perishable goods, animals (veterinary border control post), valuable cargo, reefer cargo and air mail.
