Lufthansa confirms order for five B777 Freighters

Lufthansa Cargo has finalised an order for five Boeing 777 Freighters, valued at $1.35 billion based on Boeing list prices.

The new aircraft will help Lufthansa Cargo in its initiative to modernise and expand its fleet.

Lufthansa Cargo previously indicated its intention to order the freighters in March 2011.

"The 777 freighter is highly regarded for its fuel efficiency and a noise footprint significantly smaller than comparable freighters," said Karl Ulrich Garnadt, chairman and & CEO of Lufthansa Cargo, adding that these aircraft are expected to benefit customers, as experienced by Lufthansa’s joint venture with DHL Express – AeroLogic – which already operates eight 777 Freighters.

The 777F is the world’s longest range twin-engine freighter, with a range of 9,070 km with a full payload of 102 metric tons.

According to Boeing, 88 of the 777 Freighters have been ordered, 39 of which have already been delivered.
