Luka Koper keeps expansion plans

Port of Koper keeps discipline in cost matters and unrestricted investments

By pursuing a tight cost management and taking measures to increase productivity the Management of Luka Koper aims to absorb as good as possible the consequences of the expected decline in total volumes for 2009. The Slovenian seaport announced that the planned investment programme will be implemented as scheduled in order to preserve the competitiveness. Investments for the expansion of the container terminal, the enlargement of the “vehicle storage warehouse” and the acquisition of new cranes that allow the handling of container vessels of a maximum capacity of 7,000 TEU, are budgeted with EUR 46 million.

The Management of Luka Koper reckons with an 8%-decline of total handled volume during the current year. The largest losses will be expected in vehicle handling and in the general cargo segment, whereas container volumes are expected to remain relatively stable. A two percent decline in turnover is prognosticated.
