M-Oil Trading protects freight carriers against tank fraud

Newly developed tank card and preload-system of M-Oil Trading prevents carriers from improper use of tanked diesel in trucks

M-Oil Trading GmbH presented a new solution to prevent cases of tank fraud at the „transport logistic 2011“ trade fair in Munich. The enterprise based in Ried im Traunkreis in Upper Austria is specialising on the operation of fuel stations in 15 countries and on fuel trade with many additional services. The company has evolved the new preload-system for the transport and forwarding business. A special tank card enables the fleet manager to determine the amount of diesel available to the driver, which can be retrieved by a PIN. The system is running online in real time. Misuse can almost be excluded.

The preload system covers currently about 130 fuel stations, which means the major long-distance routes. The company aims at around 300 fuel stations and a preload-share of 50 per cent of the total fuel business before 2013. With a total card volume of 80,000 this means around 40,000 preload-cards.

“It is an open secret in the international freight business, that not every litre of diesel is actually used in the tanked truck“, M-Oil sales manager Franz Nigl explains the problem at the „transport logistic 2011“ trade fair. According to the estimate of insiders two per cent of the fuel end up in other channels. In some cases the damage was up to EUR 100,000
