Martin Staats was appointed new President of BDB

Generation change at Bundesverband der Deutschen Binnenschifffahrt e.V. (BDB): Georg Hötte hands over the commando to Martin Staats

Martin Staats (44), CEO MSG eG based in Würzburg, is the new President of the Federal Association of German Inland Waterway Transport (Bundesverband der Deutschen Binnenschifffahrt e.V. – BDB). He was elected unanimously in the course of the annual meeting of the BDB on 25 März 2015 in Berlin.

Martin Staats succeeds George Hötte (Rhenus PartnerShip, Duisburg), who had declared to the members of the association already when he was re-elected in January 2012, that he will exercise the function as BDB President only until the scheduled retirement from his company at the end of March 2015.

The new BDB President is a trained forwarding merchant and business administrator who learned his business from the bottom up. Prior to his appointment to the Board of MSG in June 2010, Martin Staats was working at CCS Combined Container Service GmbH & Co. KG in Rotterdam, and afterwards at the Finnish paper and wood products manufacturer UPM (United Paper Mills) in Hamburg for about ten years.

Since mid-2010, Martin Staats has been in the Board and the Executive Committee of the BDB. He is active in numerous other positions and honorary positions in the inland waterways business, including the Professional Association for Transport and Transport Economics and the European Barge Union (EBU). Staats is also a member of the Supervisory Board of RMD Wasserstraßen GmbH (Rhine-Main-Danube) and is an advisory board member of various MSG holdings.

As part of the BDB meetings three other important elections were held on 25 March 2015. Dirk Gemmer, a member of the Rhenus PartnerShip GmbH & Co. KG (Duisburg), was elected to the BDB Board and the Committee. B. Dettmer Reederei GmbH & Co. KG (Bremen) is now also represented again in the BDB Board with Albert Kohlmann, member of the management. Dr. Achim Schloemer was elected to the association’s Board for the Köln-Düsseldorfer Deutsche Rheinschiffahrt AG (Cologne).

As of 25 March 2015 the BDB Committee is set up as follows:

• Martin Staats – President MSG eG (Würzburg)

• Dirk Gemmer – Vice President Rhenus PartnerShip GmbH & Co. KG (Duisburg)

• Dr. Gunther Jaegers – Vice President Reederei Jaegers GmbH (Duisburg)

• Volker Seefeldt – Vice President HTAG Häfen und Transport AG (Duisburg)

• Roberto Spranzi – Vice President DTG Deutsche Transport-Genossenschaft Binnenschifffahrt eG (Duisburg)
