Modern conveyor technology by Siemens for Turkish Airlines Cargo

First expansion stage of the cargo terminal at the Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul, equipped by Siemens, to start operating by the end of 2014

Turkish Airlines is expanding its cargo capacity by adding a new terminal at the Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul. In this context Siemens will equip the new cargo terminal with modern conveyor technology. The first expansion stage shall be completed by the end of

2014 and increase the capacity for cargo throughput.

The new terminal building has a total operating space of about 40,000 m². Siemens provides and installs the components for the cargo terminal.

The delivery includes 308 motor-driven roller conveyors, 1,050 roller tracks and 60 slave pallets. This guarantees fast and efficient freight handling and short waits for aircraft and trucks.

The Atatürk airport is situated on the European part of Istanbul, about25 kilometers from the city centre away. Thanks to its close location to Asia and Africa, the airport is an important cargo hub. In 2013 Turkey handled an air cargo volume of about 2.4 million tonnes – 830,000 tonnes thereof were handled at the Atatürk airport. The volume is expected to increase by another 9.4 per cent until 2016.
