Morrisons picks DHL for wholesale logistics

Supermarket group Morrisons has awarded a six-year contract to DHL Supply Chain to manage its wholesale logistics operations.

DHL will support Morrisons in areas of order fulfilment, store delivery and IT services in its wholesale operations, starting with 1,650 stores in the McColl’s Retail Group which is served by Morrisons wholesale brand Safeway.

DHL will provide 200 vehicles from five strategically located picking centres in Bury, Lutterworth, Livingston, Bridgewater and Allington. The operation will require 200,000 sq ft of warehousing space and will create 550 new jobs.

“As we continue to grow our wholesale business, we are confident that DHL will provide the services and experience needed to serve our customers well,” said Morrisons supply chain director Graeme Douglas.
