New schedule for Europe-Mediterranean services with Hamburg Süd

Hamburg Süd starts own service from northern Europe to the Mediterranean Sea and optimises the port rotation of its EMDS service

As of the end of September/beginning of October 2010, the Hamburg Süd shipping company will implement its new Europe – Mediterranean services. The Northern Route (EMNR) and the Europe – East Mediterranean/Israel Service (UKEI), hitherto operated in partnership, as well as the autonomously operated Southern Route (EMSR), will be replaced by two new standalone services.

The North Europe – South Mediterranean Service (NESM) deploys five vessels with capacities between 2,500 and 2,700 TEU on the following port rotation: Felixstowe, Antwerp, Hamburg, Tanger, Alexandria, Limassol, Ashdod, Mersin, Haifa, Alexandria, Felixstowe. The North Europe – North Mediterranean Service (NENM) on the other hand covers the following port rotation with five vessels of 1,700 to 2,100 TEU capacity: Felixstowe, Hamburg, Antwerp, Tanger, Beirut, Lattakia, Kumport, Gebze, Izmir, Salerno and Felixstowe.

According to statements of the shipping company the new service concept guarantees a comprehensive port coverage and short transit times from and to Northern Europe. Moreover the hubport Tanger provides connections between important markets in the eastern Mediterranean region and the global liner network of Hamburg Süd. Tunis will be linked via feeder service to Tanger.

In addition to the above named optimisations the port rotation from Italy to Syria/Lebanon/Egypt (EMDS) will also be adjusted. The new rotation will be as follows: Salerno, Vado Ligure, Livorno, Alexandria, Beirut, Lattakia, Tartous (monthly), Salerno.

The first departures of the new NESM service will be carried out with “Cap Bizerta“ on 26 September 2010 (southbound) and with “Cap Palmas“ on 3 October 2010 (northbound). The first sailings on the new NENM service are scheduled for 22 September 2010 (southbound) with the "Santa Francesca" and 8 October 2010 (northbound), also with the "Santa Francesca".
