New terminal for intermodal transport in Burghausen

DB Schenker BTT GmbH, DUSS and Karl Schmidt Spedition will be the new operators of the new terminal for intermodal transport in the ChemDelta Bavaria

In Burghausen, a new public terminal for intermodal transport, the cargo centre Burghausen (Güterverkehrszentrum Burghausen) is being constructed in the ChemDelta Bavaria. In the frame of a public tender RegioInvest Inn-Salzach GmbH (RegioInvest) awarded the operation of the facility to a consortium of DB Schenker BTT GmbH, Deutsche Umschlagsgesellschaft Schiene-Straße mbH (DUSS) and Karl Schmidt Spedition GmbH & Co. KG. Completion of the intermodal transport facility in Burghausen is scheduled for the end of 2013, operation shall start in spring 2014.

The consortium has extensive logistic know-how for a successful operation of the intermodal terminal. DB Schenker BTT is a subsidiary of DB Schenker Rail and active throughout Europe, specialising in the transport of sensitive chemical goods. DUSS is Europe’s largest terminal operator. The Karl Schmidt forwarding company is represented as one of the leading European silo logisticians in this region. The trio will operate the terminal for a period of 20 years technically and economically at their own risk.

RegioInvest is the client and investor, who also bears the investment risk of the intermodal terminal with four tracks, two parking lanes and a gantry crane. The intermodal terminal represents an investment volume of around EUR 30 million, with EUR 8.6 million as payment by the investor and the rest being funded by the Federal Railway Authority. "This regional consortium of investors consisting of the companies Stadt Burghausen, Landkreis Altötting, VR-meine Raiffeisenbank Altötting/Mühldorf, Wacker Chemie and Borealis, makes an important contribution to the future of the chemical industry in ChemDelta Bavaria," said Anton Steinberger, CEO of RegioInvest .

"The expansion of transport infrastructure through the intermodal terminal Burghausen is necessary because a significant increase in transport volume is expected to 2017. We can thus offer our customers a good connection in the ChemDelta Bavaria in southern Bavaria to the European intermodal and rail network," says Jörg Hilker, CEO of DB Schenker BTT.
