Safmarine upgrades Far East – East Africa network; Hanjin Shipping and partners launch Europe -South America Express service.

Safmarine’s Far East – East Africa network has been further upgraded with the introduction of a direct service connecting Tanjung Pelepas and the South Chinese ports of Nansha and Yantian with Mombasa (Kenya) and Dar Es Salaam (Tanzania).

The new service has been introduced to serve the growing market between the Far East and East Africa.

The enhanced Mashariki service offers a weekly connection to Mombasa and Dar es Salaam with competitive transit times, such as Nansha to Mombasa, Kenya in `9 days and to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in 26 days.

Hanjin Shipping, together with United Arab Shipping Company (UASC), COSCO Container Lines (COSCON) and Compania Chilena de Navegacion Interoceanica (CCNI), will launch a new Europe to South America Express (ESE) service in March.

The ESE Service will deploy six 2,500 TEU vessels, two each from Hanjin and UASC and one each from COSCON and CCNI.

The new ESE service will operate a weekly basis, calling at: Rotterdam > Hamburg > Antwerp > Algeciras > Rio de Janeiro > Santos > Itajai > Santos > Salvador > Algeciras > Rotterdam.

A call at Paranagua is being planned for a later stage.

The northbound and southbound calls at Algeciras will provide connections to and from the Mediterranean, the Middle East, Far East and Africa.
