DHL-GF adopts 100% e-AWB for Cathay Pacific and Dragonair shipments
DHL’s Global Forwarding division has adopted 100% electronic airway bill (e-AWB) for shipments originated from Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific Airways and Dragonair flights, effective January 1st. The new arrangement not only saves a significant amount of paper, but also helps to reduce data entry errors, eliminate delays due to missing AWBs, enables operations flexibility where real-time data access is possible, and helps customers to reduce costs. Currently, the average cargo shipment generates more than thirty documents that are used and/or handled by the various parties involved including shippers, freight forwarders, handling agents, export and import brokers, airlines, customs and other government authorities. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has set the end of 2014 as the target for 100% e-AWB penetration between all airfreight forwarders and all airlines on all feasible trade lanes. Last year, Cathay Pacific Cargo and Dragonair Cargo announced that, by January 1st, 2011, the two airlines would adopt e-AWBs with their forwarder partners for all shipments departing from Hong Kong.
