News from DHL

DHL inaugurates its new gateway in Casablanca, Morocco; and launches a new solution to focus on the after-sales market of the hi-tech sector.

DHL has opened its €5.5 million DHL Express gateway in at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca. The 6,800 m² gateway is DHL’s first facility of such scale in Morocco. Equipped with a cold chain facility and a dedicated strategic parts centre, the DHL Express Casablanca gateway will provide greater connections between Morocco and Europe through a daily overnight flight to and from Paris CDG International Airport. Operating 24/7, the DHL Express Casablanca gateway features 3,455 m² of warehouse space and is fully compliant with TAPA security guidelines. Equipped with eight full-size ULD sorting positions, the facility has the capacity to sort conveyable shipments to a peak capacity of up to 4,000 shipments per day.

The cold chain facility located within the DHL Express Casablanca Gateway provides a temperature-controlled area (-5°C to 8°C) that can handle temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical and life science products. There is also a strategic parts centre for the storage and distribution management of mission-critical spare parts. The gateway also provides DHL customers with multiple facilities and features, among them three truck loading/ unloading docks, and three van loading/ unloading doors. According to Bachi Spiga, head of Operations for DHL Express Middle East, North Africa & Turkey, the new facility is connected to a well-established European air network that is served by more than ninety aircraft and 100+ commercial daily flights

In other news, DHL Express has launched its Collect & Return solution across Europe.

Designed specifically for the hi-tech sector, it provides full end-to-end visibility of transport flows between multiple parties by way of a single dedicated eCom platform. DHL Collect & Return manages the entire cycle, from the collection of damaged or faulty goods, handling of international transportation to a designated repair location, and the return of goods back to the end consumer. At the core of DHL Collect & Return, a web based DHL proprietary application – the Express Logistics Platform (ELP) – ensures visibility across multiple legs for different users: the customer’s call centre arranges the booking; the designated repair vendor is able to anticipate inward shipments and plan engineering workflows; and DHL Express manages courier movements and prepares the paperwork for reverse flows. Goods can be tracked across all legs by using an RMA number, defined at the time of booking.

DHL Collect & Return is available in a dozen European countries ( the UK, France, Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Czech Republic, Hungary, Sweden, Finland and Italy), with further expansion in coverage and capabilities planned for the rest of 2011.
