News from Norbert Dentressangle

Asda renews its contract with Norbert Dentressangle for another five years, and the logistics provider reports its Q2 results.

Asda has renewed its contract with Norbert Dentressangle for the management of eight Asda Service Centres (ASCs) – the hub of the retailer’s recycling operations – for another five years.

Norbert Dentressangle has worked with Asda for more than a decade, helping the retailer to significantly increase the amount of waste it diverts from landfill. Norbert Dentressangle has also helped Asda to implement best practices in the management and handling of returned product, which currently comprises around thirteen million units each year.

Asda’s regional Service Centre network handles returnable materials, waste and returned goods from more than 400 Asda stores throughout the UK. Returnable transit packaging and waste is collected by Asda’s vehicles and delivered to the ASCs on the return leg. Returnable items are then processed for collection and re-used by Asda and its suppliers.

Originally appointed to manage the network in 2002, Norbert Dentressangle is responsible for all activities within the centres, including equipment washing, packaging waste baling and equipment sortation.

In other news, Norbert Dentressangle has reported a 6.2% increase in revenues to €957 million in the second quarter of 2011 (Q2 2010: €714m).

The company’s Transport business generated revenues of €527 million (up 7.5% from €491m in Q2 2010), while Logistics business generated revenues of €418 million (up 4.3% from €306m in Q2 2010).

However, the company’s Freight Forwarding business, which benefited from the combined effect of fast organic growth and the successive consolidations of Schneider Logistics in November 2010 and TDG in April 2011, generated revenues of €23 million, an increase of 229.8% (Q2 2010: €2m).

With the recent signing of an agreement to acquire APC Beijing International, which could be consolidated as early as Q4 2011, Norbert Dentressangle could achieve annual freight forwarding sales of €250 million.
