News from UPS

UPS applauds the US-Korea Free Trade Agreement; and adds photo ID requirement for retail shippers.

UPS has applauded the Obama administration for reaching agreement on a new bilateral free trade agreement with South Korea.

South Korea has the fourteenth largest economy in the world, and is the US’s seventh largest trading partner.

The US-South Korea FTA contains important provisions for the express delivery industry, including enhanced market access and improved customs clearance times.

In other news, UPS is expanding its policy to require customers who ship packages from retail shipping locations to present a government-issued photo ID for verification of identification.

The directive will apply at The UPS Store and Mail Boxes Etc locations, as well as authorised shipping outlets worldwide.

Consumers who tender a shipment through any retail access location and do not already have a pre-printed shipping label attached will have to present a government-issued photo ID or they will not be allowed to use UPS services. The ID policy has been in place at UPS Customer Centres since 2005.
