Novelty for European customs handling

EORI number to be obligatory in Europe from 2010

As of 1 January 2010 an EORI number has to be used for customs clearance. The EORI number will be used for the clear identification of all economic operators within the European Union. It is stipulated that all enterprises that are located or have their tax registration there have to indicate it for customs clearance. “It will not be possible to clear customs without the registration number“, the Carinthia based Traussnig forwarding company warns in a press release.

The application to be registered has to be filed online on https://zoll.bm.gv.at/eori. After successful online registration the application form has to be printed and signed. The paper has to be sent by post or fax to the local competent customs authority. “To avoid unnecessary delays in customs clearance, and to be able to maintain a smooth proceeding, we recommend shippers to apply immediately for registration at the local authorities“, the Traussnig company says in a press release.
