OBI is new major customer of Ritter Logistik GmbH

Medium-sized Ritter Logistik GmbH supplies 65 do-it-yourself stores of the OBI chain in Northern Germany since the start of the year
 
Ritter Logistik GmbH based in Langenhagen near Hanover has won a new major order: Since 3 January 2013 the medium-sized enterprise takes over 500 to 800 pallets of goods daily from OBI’s suppliers. They are transhipped in cross docking and delivered to 65 do-it-yourself stores in the north-western region (Lower Saxony, Bremen, Hamburg, Silesia-Holstein and Mecklenburg Vorpommern as well as to parts of Saxony-Anhalt, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia. “We are proud of being able to win the logistics tender against reputable logistics groups“, says Andreas Ritter, managing director. “This order shows that medium-sized enterprises can move something.“
 
For this order Ritter Logistik is renting a 2,000 m² logistics facility, recruited ten new employees and engaged several transport companies. In addition the forwarder made investments into their data processing unit and charged two computer programmer of the company’s own IT-unit with the production of a program allowing to automatically convert shipment notifications from suppliers and process them in the forwarding system.
 
The main part of the shipments is delivered to the OBI stores in the form of part loads. If only a few pallets shall be delivered to a store, they will be handled as general cargo in their own short-distance transport system or within the network of 24plus. In Langenhagen Ritter Logistik GmbH operates the North German regional hub on behalf of the 24plus forwarding cooperative and is thus able to handle also small shipments overnight.
