Bavaria Schiffahrt’s ship “Linz“ had its premiere in Austria

Bavaria Schiffahrts- und Speditions AG (Würzburg) puts into service motorised cargo ship “Linz“; Ennshafen was its first station in Austria

At the start of the year 2013 the motorised cargo ship “Linz“ arrived on the Austrian segment of the Danube. On its first journey the ship carried 1,700 tonnes of soy meal from Mainz/Rhine to the Ennshafen port. The ship replaced the motorised cargo vessel BAVARIA 53, which could no longer be operated due to a fire.

The motorised cargo ship “LINZ“ (built in 1983) had a turbulent course: It’s original length was 105 meters, but was shortened to 99.99 meters, while the push-shoulders were removed as well. In 2012 the Würzburg-based shipping company Bavaria Schifffahrts- und Speditions AG bought the vessel and extended it to 110 meters again and equipped it with a pusher in the shipyard in Erlenbach in November. At the same time they renamed it to “LINZ“.

Thus six vessels called after Upper Austria’s capital Linz are currently operated: one DDSG-MAHART push boat, one push boat of LogServ in the Voest port, one tug/push boat of Verbund AG, the boat of the navigation inspection of Linz and the passenger ship “STADT LINZ“ of Wurm + Köck.

However, the motorised cargo vessel “LINZ“ is the only ship that can show it’s name throughout Europe on its journey on the RMD corridor. 110 meters long and 10.5 meters wide, the ship has a maximum draught of 3.16 meters. The ship’s maximum carrying capacity is 2,568 tonnes.
