ÖBB-CEO wants to remediate Rail Cargo Austria sustainably

Rail Cargo Austria, division of ÖBB Holding AG, shall count among top 5 providers of rail cargo transport in Europe in 2015

 

Following a disastrous business year 2010, the ÖBB Holding AG division Rail Cargo Austria shall be put back on its feet through a tough program. ÖBB’s CEO Mag. Christian Kern wants to return the enterprise to the top 5 providers of services in the segment of rail cargo traffic in Europe before 2015. "Apart from increasing volumes and turnover we are striving for sustainably improvements in productivity and earnings", the Manager disclosed at the press conference for the balance sheet of ÖBB Holding AG. The RCA group shall be redeveloped by its own force.

The Rail Cargo Austria division of the ÖBB Holding posted a negative result of EUR 353 million in the 2010 balance sheet. This figure contains non-scheduled depreciations of foreign interests and special effects totalling EUR 240 million. Sales revenues rose 9 per cent compared to 2009 to EUR 2.414 billion. They forwarded 10 per cent more volume – 132.9 million tons.

In the reporting period Rail Cargo Austria AG transported 97.5 million tons of cargo. The strategic business unit Cargo & Logistik accounted for 65.9 million tons thereof, and Intermodal UKV/RoLA for 30 million tons. Contract logistics handled around 1.6 million tons. Rail Cargo Hungaria Kft. posted a total volume of 35.4 million tons for the year 2010, made up as follows: 30.7 million tons Cargo & Logistik; around 3.8 million tons Intermodal UKV and 900,000 tons Intermodal RoLa.
