Gebrüder Weiss wins „Staatspreis 2008“

Gebrüder Weiss blocktrain solution „Orange Combi Cargo“ highly honoured

The Gebrüder Weiss GmbH shifted more than 15,000 truck transportations with the „Orange Combi Cargo“ blocktrain solution from road to rail in the year 2008. This special combined road/rail transport service was the reason why the freight forwarder received the „Staatspreis Verkehr 2008“ (state award in transport) last week. Wolfgang Niessner, Chief Executive Officer, received the high honour at a gala night from Christa Kranzl, State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology.

The „Orange Combi Cargo“ blocktrain provides a daily connection between Greater Vienna and the provinces of Tyrol and Vorarlberg (recently a new operation to Salzburg was established). In each direction maximum capacities for 66 swap trailers are available. „In this project Gebrüder Weiss together with Rail Cargo Austria AG, the Hämmerle Container Service and the Rewe Group Austria, established a blocktrain on the westbound axis between Vorarlberg, Tyrol and Vienna and succeeded in implementing a sustainable transport offer on the rail. Including the relevant entrepreneurial risks, the transportation of time-sensible consignments on this corridor can be ensured, but also a massive amount of transports can be shifted from the road to rail „, the jury stated the reasons for their decision.
