ÖBB’s general cargo specialist cooperates with Quehenberger Logistics

Concept for increased customer benefit is taking effect; 2014 EBIT of the Rail Cargo Group surpasses the benchmark of EUR 100 million

Through cooperations the European Contract Logistics – Austria GmbH, ÖBB’s specialist for general cargo and contract logistics, aims to return to profitability. At the annual press conference last week ÖBB-General Director Mag. Christian Kern announced the establishment of a cooperation with Quehenberger Logistics in the form of bundling shipments in certain regions.

The aim of the measure is to strengthen the activities on the Austrian general cargo market. In the first month, the partnership of EC Logistics and Quehenberger Logistics have affected sales volume of about EUR 200,000, the ÖBB boss confirmend when talking to the Austrian transport magazine Österreichische Verkehrszeitung.

Meanwhile, continues the upward trend of the Rail Cargo Group, the freight subsidiary of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB). In the 2014 fiscal year, the best result since the founding of Rail Cargo Austria AG was achieved.

With sales of EUR 2.16 billion and 110 million tonnes of transported goods, of which 73 million tonnes carried in Austria, the operating result (EBIT) was increased by 36 per cent in comparison with the previous year, from EUR 76 million to EUR 103.6 million. At the same time, the EBIT margin increased to 4.8 per cent. Despite the tight competition transport capacity increased to 29 billion tonne-kilometres.

This record result was achieved by consistent implementation of the strategy and market-oriented structure. With current sales and product optimization, the development of own traction services and investments in innovative equipment and a modern fleet, customer satisfaction was significantly increased.
