One-stop-shop with DB Schenker for Schweighofer Fiber in Hallein

DB Schenker launches logistic full range concept for Schweighofer Fiber; 130,000 tonnes of transport volume on the rail per year

DB Schenker’s Rail Logistics and Forwarding division has recently won a major order in Austria in the form of a full range concept consisting of transport and in-house logistics. Since February 2013 two weekly block trains, with each 20 four-axle high capacity-railcars (Habbins) are carrying pulp bales from the production plant of Schweighofer Fiber GmbH in Hallein to Bremerhaven. It takes the trains about 20 hours to cover the 1,000 kilometres distance from the plant in Salzburg to the place of unloading in Bremerhaven.

These rail transportations are part of a logistic full range solution, which charges DB Schenker in Salzburg with warehousing and transhipment logistics: Experts of the forwarding company are directly working in the Schweighofer Fiber plant, using their own storage and loading equipment. Four persons can load an entire block train within nine to ten hours. This pace can only be reached by loading two railcars at a time. Transhipment ways are exactly defined; the production process is not impacted.

Moreover, previously defined interfaces ensure a smooth and fast process. “We developed the entire project as a logistic one-stop-shop. The customer gets all services from one source and needs only one contact partner,” says Bernd Müller, product manager in charge, Rail Logistics and Forwarding, Schenker & Co AG.
