Pallet handling: New approach of sht and STEAG Power Minerals

Sievert Handel Transporte GmbH (sht): New solution for pallet handling ends discussions between logistics providers, shippers and goods recipients

Sievert Handel Transporte GmbH (sht) from Lengerich and STEAG Power Minerals GmbH have jointly developed a concept to optimise the change process of Euro pallets. Since August customers of the industrial enterprise from Dinslaken become automatically owners of the pallet, with a right of return. This makes superfluous pallet accounts that were necessary so far as well as calculation and credit notes at the change.

Marco David, vice head sales for blasting abrasives and industrial minerals at STEAG Power Minerals GmbH, explains the changes: “Restructuring of the pallet handling allows us to optimise our production and working process of our staff.“ E.g. administrative control effort for pallets in disposition is considerably reduced. STEAG had been thinking about a new pallet concept for one year. “Together with our longstanding and competent service provider sht we have elaborated a comprehensive solution within very short time“, adds David.

Time savings are also expected for the commercial department, as in future billing and reminders of minimum amounts is no longer necessary. „We profit from faster shipment, significant cost savings and increased customer satisfaction,“ says Marco David.

The new concept also provides benefits to the customers of STEAG. Bernd Focke, sales head of Sievert Handel Transporte, emphasises: The new concept makes the customers of STEAG owners of the pallets. Despite the omission of pallet accounts customers profit from significantly more options for handling, without having to give up their right of free return.“ Thus useable pallets can be returned for free to the relevant forwarder or at the blasting abrasives plant of STEAG in Lünen. What is new is the option of independent waste disposal or sale of the pallets. Moreover, STEAG customers do no longer have to provide empty pallets at goods delivery.

The new concept also allows forwarders to sell their pallets – to another company or larger volumes on previous demand to STEAG for the daily market price. “It is also attractive for forwarders that they are not obliged to return empty pallets to the loading site. Since August they can bring them to their own or other forwarders’ locations, use them further or sell them“, explains Bernd Focke.
