Panalpina steps up sales efforts

Increased focus on the SME segment at Panalpina Group

By intensifying their sales efforts Panalpina Group responds to the difficult market environment. The measures comprise a reinforced focus on the SME segment in order to optimise the customer structure and new products from the field of global supply chain management.

In addition, the design and implementation of a trade lane management concept combined with the appointment of a Global Head of Sales (reporting directly to the Executive Board), intensified sales training as well as improved visibility and transparency are anticipated to spur growth in the coming quarters, as the Management announced.

As a consequence of the global financial and economic crisis Panalpina Group goes through a difficult period. From January to September 2009 the net turnover generated with forwarding services showed a year-on-year decline of 34.6 per cent to CHF 4.389 billion. Gross profit dropped 18.5 per cent to CHF 1.065 billion. The cost-cutting program announced in March this year shall reduce operating costs by CHF 130 million before the end of this year.
