Emirates Airline is still flying in the profit zone

Decline in turnover of passenger and cargo business with Emirates Airline

Emirates Airline makes positive headlines also in the year 2009, which is a difficult one for the international aviation industry. Despite the global financial and economic crisis the airline, based in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, generated a profit of USD 205 million in the first half of the business year 2009/2010 (1 April to 30 September 2009).

This means growth has been 165 per cent on the corresponding period last year. The only bad news is: Total turnover dropped 13.5 per cent to USD 5.4 billion due to less revenue in the passenger and freight business. Thanks to cost cutting measures and lower prices for kerosene the total expenses could be reduced by 15.8 per cent to USD 5.2 billion compared to last year.

Emirates Airline has carried over 13 million passengers and more than 700,000 tons of air cargo in the reporting period. The volume of airfreight uplifted by Emirates SkyCargo was in line with last year. They have expanded their global network by adding the destinations Durban (South Africa) and Luanda (Angola).
