PH launches logistics facility in Portland, Oregon

The Philippines and the State of Oregon in the US have further strengthened economic ties with the Philippines‘ recent launch of a logistics facility in the port city of Portland, the state’s main port.

The launch comes three months after Manila-based International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI) took over operations of Terminal 6 in the Port of Portland. ICTSI subsidiary, ICTSI Oregon, now runs terminal 6.

According to ICTSI chairman & president Enrique Razon Jr, the new logistics facility in Portland will complement the operations of Terminal 6, and will boost PH – US trade.

"ICTSI is ready to cooperate and extend assistance to the Philippine government in further improving trade with the US.  We are willing to help whenever we can," Razon added.

According to the Philippine Department of Trade & Industry, Oregon is one of the country’s leading trading partners in recent years. The Philippines was the fourth largest buyer of Oregon goods in 2010 shipped by air and sea, and ranked tenth in terms of dollar value of Oregon shipments by sea.

The Port of Portland is the third largest US port in the west coast, with marine terminals handling more than thirteen million tons of cargo per year.
