Phone-free apprenticeship at Dachser’s branch office in Himberg

A smartphone is unquestionably a very practical thing. At the same time, it is distracting: A mobile phone hinders the capacity to think, even if it is simply lying on a table.

Thus Dachser Austria and the Himberg Polytechnic School (PTS) want to take action: The students built a box in which 20 smartphones can be securely stored and charged at the same time.

In a handover ceremony, Director Otto Wittner presented the „cellphone garage“ to Anja Renger, Head of Education at the Dachser Logistics Center in Vienna and Günter Hirschbeck, Managing Director of Dachser Austria European Logistics. One of the students from the project, Antonio, was also present.

“We certainly envisage using the box in all of our branches in Austria,” said Anja Renger. There has already been talk of adapting the cellphone garage – into a storage space for pen-keys, for example, for when drivers return them at the end of their tours.

Dachser Austria and its two Business Lines European Logistics and Air & Sea Logistics moved around 1.8 million shipments weighing 1.2 million tonnes in the 2016 financial year. This resulted in a turnover of EUR 174.8 million. The group employs currently 479 persons at ten locations.
