Port of Hamburg “keeps the train“ in Austria

Olaf Scholz, First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, met peak representatives of Austria’s logistics industry in Vienna

Assuming continued international division of labour, Olaf Scholz, First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, made a confession to continued measures for the development of Hamburg’s port area and investments to optimise the infrastructure for warehousing and handling services during his working visit in Vienna. The conditions and capacities to handle more than 20 million TEU per year shall be set up in the years of 2020, the politician said in a talk with the peak representatives of Austria’s logistics industry.

In line with that he made a commitment to prolong the tight cooperation with Austrian customers and business partners. Hamburg is the clear N°1 in exportation and importation of containers in Austria. According to experts this is due to the vast offer of liner services on the routes between Asia and Europe and the 72 weekly block trains linking Hamburg to Austria’s container terminals. The aim of Hamburg’s port industry is to continue with this tradition. Therefore they are thinking about guaranteeing availability of sufficient empty containers for Austria’s major shippers at any time.
