Austria’s sea freight shippers are still appreciating the services of the storage and throughput operators in Koper. Last year the Slovenian seaport handled 5.615 million tonnes of goods (2010: 4.947 million tonnes) with points of departure and destination in Austria. Luka Koper d. d. announced this referring to an overview the Austrian transport magazine ‘’Verkehr’’ has published lately. It shows Rotterdam (3.65 million tonnes) and Hamburg (3.05 million tonnes) as the strongest followers.

Handling 5.615 million tonnes the Port of Koper joined almost one third of Austrian sea freights during the reporting period. The most important cargo groups were and are bulk cargo (dry and liquid), containers, vehicles and general cargo. Container traffic with Austria amounted to a total of more than 90,000 TEU in 2011.
