Port of Koper saw an Austria-boom in 2011

Austria-transit at the Port of Koper reached the record level of 5.3 million tons in the calendar year 2011:

The Slovenian seaport of Koper has never before handled as much seacargo with points of departure or destination in Austria like in the calendar year 2011. Dr. Gregor Veselko, CEO Luka Koper d. d., indicated the total volume with about 5.3 million tons at a customer event in Vienna. This is equal to an increase of 8.2 per cent compared to the previous year. Traffic with Austria accounts for about 33 per cent of the total throughput in the Port of Koper. Thus Austria is ranked higher than the domestic market Slovenia.

The growth driver of traffic with Austria was, as in the past years, container transport. The number of box shipments with points of departure or destination will reach a value of 90,000 TEU by the end of this year. “This is a 40 per cent-increase“, Gregor Veselko announced at the „Luka Koper Day“ in Vienna. According to him total volume in container transport will amount to about 600,000 TEU. Cargo throughput 2011 shall amount to 16 million tons in total.
