Premiere of 13,800 TEU-container vessel with CMA CGM

French shipping group CMA CGM puts largest French-flagged container vessel into service

On 12 July the French shipping line CGM CGM christened its new flagship “Christophe Colomb” in Le Havre. According to a press release the new building with a capacity of 13,800 TEU is the world’s largest container vessel sailing under a French flag. The ship is the first of a series of eight units that were ordered.

CMA CGM wants to enhance its business model and improve its competitiveness with this new acquisition. From July the container vessel is to be deployed on the FAL 5 route from Asia to Europe v.v., and will call at the following ports: Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, Tanjung Pelepas, Port Kelang, Le Havre, Hamburg, Rotterdam and Zeebrugge.

CMA CGM currently offers 10 services between Asia and Northern Europe, with capacity to carry 22,000 containers a week.
