Rail Cargo Austria starts comprehensive redevelopment program

Many drastic measures in the Rail Cargo Austria AG-segments cargo & logistics, contract logistics and intermodal

In response to the current economic situation Rail Cargo Austria AG (Vienna) has started a comprehensive redevelopment program. “Our measures will focus on reducing costs by increasing efficiency in the field of own production and structure. By optimising costs and tariff structures we are able to organise our transport services cost-covering. The reduction of currently more than 500 handling points is just one concrete example. We are also working with great commitment to establish new, reliable distribution structures and products“, the management board announces in a press release.

In the field of contract logistics the focus lies on continuing the redevelopment course. This means tariff optimisations on part of the customers, redimensioning of locations and cost reduction measures shall bring about a turn for the better.

In the intermodal business segment the management is preparing to reorganise national transport as well as service concepts for pre and on-carriage. Their aim is to create an intermodal block train network in Austria before 1 April 2011. The operator of rolling roads Ökombi starts with an unchanged rail program into the new year. As for international transport Intercontainer Austria will launch a new intermodal network to Southeastern Europe (CEE) on 14 January 2011.

By means of these and some more measures the redevelopment of Rail Cargo Austria shall be successfully finished by 2013 at latest. The management wants to position the enterprise in the market as a reliable logistics partner and the leading rail logistician in Austria, Central and Eastern Europe.
