Rail Cargo Group: New train link to Northern Europe

By mid-February, the ÖBB’s cargo division will launch the TransFER Wels-Lübeck, a non-stop connection running twice a week between the Austrian hub of Wels and Northern Germany. As the largest German Baltic Sea port, the port of Lübeck is a central transhipment point between the economic centres of Western and Central Europe and the rapidly developing Baltic Sea region.

Via the Wels terminal, customers from Scandinavia and northern Germany benefit from a seamless connection to the national and international network of Rail Cargo Group. With its Wels hub, RCG offers attractive rail products to Italy, Switzerland, Southeastern Europe, Greece and Turkey.

Forwarders from the Alpine region will now be able to reach Scandinavia directly and reliably by environmentally friendly rail. The TransFER Wels-Lübeck also offers common ferry connections via the port of Lübeck.

RCG is thus not only expanding its range of services, but is also shortening transit times to and from the Baltic Sea port and strengthening combined transport within Austria as well as to northern Germany, reads a press release.
