Amazon inaugurated its distribution hub in Großebersdorf, Lower Austria

Because of the increasing demand for Amazon Prime, the innovation company Amazon needs more capacity and flexibility. Thus, they founded Amazon Transport Austria GmbH.

According to the company, the online retailer works with Amazon Logistics like a regular parcel logistics provider and thus supplements the capacity of Austrian Post, DHL and Hermes service providers with its own distribution system.

On 5 October 2018, the Austrian Amazon distribution hub in Großebersdorf in the district of Mistelbach, Lower Austria was inaugurated. From there, Amazon Logistics serves several postal code areas in the metropolitan area of Vienna via delivery partners.

“We made the decision to move here last June already. Then we started a test operation, which is now officially considered as completed,” Bernd Gschaider, Director of Amazon Logistics, said to journalists on the occasion of the opening of the site in the presence of Margarete Schramböck, Minister of Economic Affairs, and Ludwig Schleritzko, State Councilor.

The location in Großebersdorf is a distribution hub , where the parcels arrive, for example, from European Amazon logistics facilities. After they are unloaded, they are sorted for the delivery vehicles and finally delivered to the customers in Vienna. Distribution is done using Amazon’s own route planning.

Amazon Logistics works together with nine regional and local business partners in Grossebersdorf: Intersprint, Albatros, Veloce Botendienste GmbH, LTS, Krä/Vega, DCPoint, LALO, BCNN and KELO.

Currently, around 250 vehicles are used in daily operation for Amazon Logistics in Großebersdorf. The drivers of the business partners arrive successively between 8 am and 11 am and distribute between 20,000 and 30,000 parcels a day in Greater Vienna.
