RCA’s „national intermodal network Austria“ is ready to go

New national intermodal network of Rail Cargo Austria for wagon loads and wagon groups with overnight terminal-terminal operation

Rail Cargo Austria AG’s reorganisation of the heavy losses making national intermodal traffic for unaccompanied transport boxes is entering its final stage. Under the short name NINA „National intermodal network Austria“ the enterprise starts an overnight terminal-terminal operation by using their own locomotives and shuttle sets. As advantages of the new system Franz Dirnbauer, manager of the segment Intermodal Rail Cargo Austria, named the high plan ability and reliability at an event in Vienna. The related price increases for customers are “moderate“ as the ÖBB manager said.

The centre of NINA is the hub in Wels. From here RCA offers eight weekly rail connections to Vienna, as well as five weekly operations from/to St. Michael in Upper Styraia, Graz, Salzburg, Villach, Bludenz and Wolfurt. Hall in Tyrol is served three times per week. A „triangular traffic“ connects the terminals Wels, Linz and Ennshafen. In Vienna the stations Freudenau port and Nordwestbahn are covered by the network.

They accept containers, swap bodies and craneable semitrailers for transportation. For intermodal block trains the production scheme is still the same as before.
