UK storage solutions supplier, Rapid Racking, has extended its six-year relationship with Nightfreight with a new three-and-a-half-year contract.

The seven-figure contract will see Rapid Racking outsourcing all onward deliveries for the first time, after previously operating its own in-house fleet.

Nightfreight will manage the complete outbound delivery of Rapid Racking’s full product range from its Gloucestershire site to its B2B and B2C customers nationwide. Nightfreight will operate five dedicated vehicles from its Risley, Southall, Willenhall and Pucklechurch sites, supported by its national shared-use network of 53 depots, to deliver more than 9,000 consignments per year.

Wincanton has secured a three-year renewal of its UK warehousing and distribution contract with Miller Brands (UK), a division of SABMiller.

Under the contract, Wincanton will store and distribute more than one million hectolitres per year of imported keg and bottled lagers to wholesalers, retailers and licensed outlets throughout the UK.

The operation is based out of Wincanton’s distribution centres in Lutterworth, Leicestershire and Mossend, Scotland.

LG Electronics UK has renewed its contract with Norbert Dentressangle for another three years.

Originally appointed in 2007, Norbert Dentressangle will continue to be responsible for all of LG Electronics UK warehousing and retail distribution activities until 2014.

Product is received from LG Electronics manufacturing sites in Poland, Korea and China into Norbert Dentressangle’s 28,000 m2 facility in Milton Keynes. The company receives around 8,000 container loads of LG product per year, and is responsible for the complete distribution and storage cycle, including inbound quality control and product customisation to meet the specific requirements of LG Electronics‘ customers.

Norbert Dentressangle has also secured a five-year contract to undertake the transportation operation based at The Co-operative Group’s new composite distribution centre (CDC) in Andover, which is scheduled for completion in March 2011.

The Co-operative Group announced plans for the new 500,000 sq.ft multi-temperature distribution centre in September 2009 as part of the strategic development of its logistics network, following its acquisition of the Somerfield supermarket chain.

In addition to the secondary distribution operation, Norbert Dentressangle will also provide a night service, trunking frozen product from Andover to other Co-operative Food RDCs. The warehousing operation will continue to be managed in-house.

The Co-operative Group will also open a new Scottish CDC shortly, with another centre in Avonmouth due for completion in 2012.

Puma has appointed Damco as its logistics partner in Mexico, and has also nominated Damco to handle the entire volume of its sister company, Tretorn, in Sweden.

Damco will handle Puma’s imports into Mexico, as well as Tretorn’s entire volume from China, Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Thailand to Sweden.

Damco’s business with Puma in Mexico has been ongoing for a few years, and, after helping Puma to reduce costs, the cooperation has expanded to cover all origins from January 2011.
