Relay delivers Covid-19 vaccine freezers across UK
Relay Technical Transport will transport Covid-19 ultra low temperature (ULT) freezer units to the NHS nationwide.
The project has involved the planning, scheduling, and delivery of several hundred Eppendorf ULT freezers to two NHS central storage sites and 54 NHS regional hubs.
The nationwide assignment has been undertaken by Relay Technical Transport on behalf of its customer Scientific Laboratory Supplies (SLS).
The Ultra Low Temperature freezers will ensure that the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine retains its properties intact.
Chris Taylor, Operations Manager at Relay’s Warrington depot, which coordinated the deliveries across the NHS said: “[Relay’s] IT assets are always invaluable for determining the position of high value goods in transit, and they have been absolutely essential when dealing with items of such critical importance as these freezer units for vaccine storage.”
SLS Operations Director Bruce Mowbray added: “SLS has worked in partnership with Relay before and needed a partner that could be trusted to deliver such a vital project, with the tight timescales and efficiencies the Department Of Health and NHS England required.”
Daniel Rangecroft, Sales Director at Relay concluded: “Even as the UK enters this new period of Lockdown in January 2021, our essential work will continue unabated as the newly approved Oxford University Astra Zeneca vaccine is rolled out to the NHS nationwide.”
