Rhenus opens new customs and logistics terminal in Russia

Rhenus starts operating its new customs and logistics terminal in Krasnaya Gorka of Russia’s Smolensk region

Last week Rhenus inaugurated its new customs and logistics terminal in Krasnaya Gorka of Smolensk region. The terminal covers an area measuring eight hectares and has more than 2,200 m² of warehouse space and 400 truck parking spaces. High-ranking representatives from the worlds of politics and business and a number of customers were invited to witness the opening of the facilities on the western border of the Russian Federation.

Now that the Rhenus Group has completed the terminal, it has created jobs in the Smolensk region and office space to house a customs office and up to seven customs brokers. The terminal will mainly be used by Rhenus customers from the automotive, industrial plant and medical engineering sectors and the textile industry in future – but also for project business. If required, the site at Krasnaya Gorka can gradually be expanded to provide warehouse space measuring up to 30,000 m². This against the background, as Russia’s government decided in 2009 to move bonded warehouses and customs offices out of the Greater Moscow area to the country’s borders in order to ease the pressure on traffic in congested urban areas.
