Roland Spedition puts on track electric locomotive in corporate design

30 years after its foundation Roland Spedition counts among Austria’s leading private providers in the business sector of container operating

Presenting a new Taurus locomotive in corporate design the forwarding company Roland Spedition started the celebration of its 30-years-jubilee on 21 September at the container terminal in the Port of Vienna Freudenau. The locomotive is operated by the private rail company WLB Cargo, “with whom we have tight business relations for many years“, as the Roland managers Christian Gutjahr and Nikolaus Hirnschall emphasised on this occasion. The locomotive baptised with the name ‘Flojo’ will be operated from the calendar week 38 in the sea port hinterland transport between Austria and Germany’s North Sea ports Bremerhaven and Hamburg.

Roland Spedition GmbH based in Schwechat near Vienna was established in 1982 by Heinz Gutjahr and Roland Spedition from Bremen. The entrepreneuer soon recognised the future potential of combined road/rail transport. The buy-out of the north German foundation partner followed in 1997. Then activities in container transport on the routes between European seaports and terminals in Middle Europe’s hinterland was expanded systematically.

With the acquisition of the Confracht company in 2001Roland Spedition entered the circle of the leading private service providers for container operating in Austria. The partial entry into own traction in May 2010 was another benchmark in the company’s history. In the calendar year 2011 the 47 employees of Roland Spedition working at the locations in Schwechat near Vienna and Salzburg handled a total volume of 125,000 TEU. The shares of the company are equally (50 per cent each) held by the Managing Directors Christian Gutjahr and Nikolaus Hirnschall.

“Since the company was established in 1994 we have been cooperating with Roland Spedition. Their great service also had a positive influence on our career. We therefore want to thank them for the longstanding cooperation“, commented Rudolf Kropfreiter, Managing Director of IBC Internationale Spedition GMBH.
