Rolling road across the Brenner is „buzzing“

From January to November 2014 ten per cent more trucks were transported on the rolling road across the Brenner pass than last year

The trains of the rolling road of Rail Cargo Austria, the cargo division of the Austrian federal railway group ÖBB, can draw a positive balance after the first eleven months of this year. Carrying 134,000 truck units, they surpassed last year’s figure by 12,500 units, or 10 per cent.

In total 34 daily rolling road trains are operated by Rail Cargo Austria on the Brenner corridor, on two trades. 30 daily trains are operated between Wörgl and the terminal at Brennersee, and four between Wörgl and Trient. The capacity utilisation of more than 85 per cent shall be further improved.

Rail Cargo Austria is by their own account an expert and European market leader in the handling of rolling roads. In 2013 about 131,000 trucks were carried on the railway via rolling road across the Brenner pass. This result is expected to clearly beat the figure of 140,000 truck units this year.
