Russia worries Lower Austria’s exporters

Survey conducted on behalf of ecoplus and the Economic Chamber of Lower Austria shows: “Current mood of exporters to Russia” in Lower Austria is quite depressed

The mood of Lower Austria’s export companies is quite positive in general. The only downer is: companies with a strong commitment to Russia and Ukraine are struggling with the current market situation.

This was announced by Lower Austria’s economic minister Dr. Petra Bohuslav and the president of the Lower Austrian Economic Chamber KommR Sonja Zwazl on 14 October, at the presentation of the export survey “Exportumfrage 2014“.

The survey of Lower Austrian exporters to Russia showed the followingresult: About 45 per cent of those surveyed stated that the current political situation had an impact on their businesses – ranging from delays due to the stringent export controls to cancellations. Only 13 per cent of the companies expect that this situation will change within the next few months.

The survey on the topic „Current mood of exporters to Russia“, which was conducted by Prok. Dr. David Pfarrhofer from the market Institut from 15 September to 7 October 2014 was based on 101 telephone interviews with Lower Austria’s export companies.

„go-international, the export promotion program of BMWFW and the Chamber of Commerce, gives companies affected by the Ukraine-/Russian crisis co-financing of up to EUR 30,000 for costs incurred in the development of new long-distance markets,“ said Sonja Zwazl. A total of EUR 2.5 million was made available for this „Russia“ package, valid until the end of 2015.

„It is in this situation, it’s all about two parallel strategies for our operations: First, by trying to maintain existing contacts – and hope that the door remains open. And second, by replacing the current losses or declines by developing new export markets,“ Petra Bohuslav and Sonja Zwazl said unanimously.
