Saco Shipping: New LCL export services for freight forwarders from Vienna

Saco Shipping GmbH, which has been based in Hamburg for 30 years, is also well positioned in the Austrian market with a branch in Vienna. In export, the local team has been organizing several new LCL export services directly from Vienna since February 2019. The abbreviation LCL stands for “less than container load” and therefore for cargo that only partially fills a container.

Christian Fanta, Managing Director of Saco Shipping in Austria, offers forwarders direct consolidated containers to the following destinations: Hong Kong, Shanghai, Pusan with possibility to tranship to Japan and Port Klang with transhipments to other Far East destinations. Additionally there are Chicago, New York and Charleston each including hinterland stations.

The packing (stuffing) of the LCL containers takes place in their own warehouse in Vienna. This saves costs in pre-operatig, and also the transit times are shorter. Thus Saco is according to own data the only provider in Austria, which offers these direct services from Vienna.

As a supplement to the large shipping companies with their liner services, forwarding companies can also book worldwide shipments from Hamburg via NVOCC. The abbreviation NVOCC stands for Non Vessel Operating Common Carrier. Customers are forwarding agencies, for which the NVOCC acts as a carrier and handles the booking of shipping space at selected shipping companies.

Around ten NVOCCs offer their services in Hamburg and are particularly well represented for consolidated shipments in the LCL business. One of these providers is the chartering company SACO Shipping GmbH.
