Samskip keeps the current service to St. Petersburg upright

Because of the import bans: Samskip will monitor all commodities that are being shipped via its services to Russia

On 7 August Russian authorities have announced severe and extensive import bans. The government released a temporary list of cargoes, mostly meat, dairy and agricultural products, originating from the EU, Norway, the United States, Canada and Australia which are subject to import restrictions with immediate effect.

Samskip will keep the current service upright and keep calling the port of St. Petersburg. In addition, the company will closely monitor all commodities that are being shipped via its services to Russia and will have an active dialogue with customers to thoroughly check which goods can be accepted for shipments and which not.

“We reserve the right not to ship cargoes, also at short notice, if, after careful examination with the customer, these might fall under the commodities listed under the restrictions. In case cargoes have already been shipped and need to be returned to the country of origin because they are rejected in Russia or it turns out that the cargo falls under EU restrictions, we will do utmost to return these cargoes immediately by trying to back-load the goods on the same vessel on which they arrived. Any extra costs including sea freight, additional and local charges for such operations are for customers account”, the company announces in a press release.
