Schenker presents 2011 balance and new buildings

4.7 per cent increase in turnover for Schenker & Co AG (Vienna) in Austria and in the region southeastern Europe in 2011
 
Schenker & Co AG (Vienna) is continuing to optimise its network in southeastern Europe by establishing new buildings. Following EUR 30.5 million in 2011(new building in Klagenfurt, new terminal in Skopje) the enterprise is investing about EUR 30 million within the region in the current fiscal period.
 
In Rudna near Prague the first turn of the sod will soon be made for a new building. Also in St. Pölten construction works for a new forwarding facility will start shortly. In Belgrade a new terminal is to be constructed this autumn. The Serbian branch will move into this new building by 2013. In addition the software package STAR will be launched in the coming months. According to the enterprise this is a milestone in the handling of land transport.
 
With 5,241 employees Schenker & Co AG (Vienna) achieved a 4.7 per cent-increase in turnover to EUR 1.5 billion in Austria and in the region southeastern Europe in the fiscal year 2011. This resulted in an annual surplus of about EUR 35.8 million. The number of shipments grew by about 9 per cent to 8 million units. The enterprise registered the largest increases in the segment of land transport, which were up 10.5 per cent to about 4 million shipments in 2011. As to sea freight in this region (including Austria) they forwarded 241,000 TEU, which means an increase of 3.7 per cent compared to the previous year. In the segment of air freight volume rose 2.8 per cent to 77,600 tonnes. Rail transport grew 5.4 per cent to 1.6 million shipments.
 
„Our wide range of products, the high level of commitment of our employees and the good development of our national companies in southeastern Europe, headed by Romania, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Turkey, ensured a satisfying financial year 2011 for us“, says Mag. Elmar Wieland, CEO Schenker & Co AG. In the current financial year 2012 the enterprise feels economic declines in Turkey, Slovenia and Romania. In the segment of contract logistics they implemented new projects in the past months, among them projects for suppliers of the automotive industry.
