Significant cargo increase at Graz Airport in 2013

Air cargo volume 2013 at Styria’s capital reaches second-best result in the airport’s history

Graz Airport saw significant growth in air freight in the year 2013. The very strong recovery resulted in a significant plus, meaning even the second-best result in the history was reached by the end of the year.

Total cargo throughput amounted to 11,281 tonnes, representing an increase of 10.5 per cent compared to 2012. Outstanding was October, showing an increase of nearly 70 per cent compared with the same month of 2012. The only downer: The number of passengers on scheduled and charter traffic fell by 5.2 per cent to 881,740 passengers.

„Graz Airport has once again proved to be is strong enough to get through economically difficult times,“ says Wolfgang Malik, CEO of Holding Graz. „What has proven were especially the good connections to major hub airports and the service-oriented freight center. They are the main reason why the airport is an indispensable factor for the economic and touristic location Styria and for all of Southeast Austria.“
