SKF charges Geis group with distribution across Germany

Expanded cooperation with SKF GmbH Deutschland means more than 150 tonnes of daily transport volume for the Geis group

The internationally operating Geis group has expanded its cooperation with the SKF GmbH Deutschland: Since the start of this year Geis is in charge of the entire national distribution logistics in a 24-hour service for the technology provider based in Schweinfurt. SKF runs eight plants throughout Germany.

The new order covers goods distribution from all eight German SKF locations in Berlin, Hockenheim, Lüchow, Meckesheim, Mühlheim an der Donau, Schweinfurt, Stuttgart and Walldorf. In addition special goods destined for Germany are carried from the international SKF plants in Belgium (Tongeren), Switzerland (Liesthal), Italy (Airasca), Sweden (Gothenburg) and France (St. Cyr), as well as external customers of SKF Logistics GmbH from the Netherlands and Poland.

Since some of the national and international plants are outside the direct catchment area of Geis, the company cooperates closely with the partners of the IDS general cargo cooperation. „But the central contact and service center for all the plants and orders is our location in Kürnach“ says Henry Portisch, branch manager Kürnach. „This is also where the daily avises of SKF shipments arrive.“

The goal is to deliver at least 98 per cent of all shipments within 24 hours to the recipients – mainly retailers and automotive suppliers. More than 150 tonnes are transported by Geis and the IDS partners in this way on every weekday.

The Geis group has been providing logistics services to the Swedish SKF group for ten years. “We started in 2004 with distribution in Austria. Soon came national distribution in the Czech Republic and international direct services – among them to Turkey and Italy“, says Peter Gayer, head of the key account management at Hans Geis GmbH. “I am glad we have been able to substantially expand our successful cooperation through this major project,“ he adds.
