South Hook LNG Terminal signs three year contract for shipping and forwarding with DB Schenker Logistics

Worldwide collection and delivery of spares and materials to and from new facility

South Hook, Europe’s largest Liquefied Natural Gas terminal, at Milford Haven in west Wales has signed a three year deal for Schenker Limited to provide all its domestic and international shipping and forwarding services.

The facility which opened for commercial Operations in October 2009 is a strategic partnership between Qatar and the UK and is jointly owned by Qatar Petroleum (67.5%), ExxonMobil (24.15%) and Total (8.35%).  The site can process 15.6 million tonnes of LNG per annum and is capable of delivering 21 billion cubic metres of gas per annum into the UK’s national transmission system meaning that South Hook has the potential to deliver a significant proportion of the UK’s gas requirements.

Following an extensive and rigorous tender process DB Schenker has been awarded the contract to supply shipping and forwarding services for both spares and materials to and from South Hook.  Airfreight, oceanfreight, roadfreight, courier, breakbulk and heavy lift movements will all be required under the terms of the contract with inbound shipments coming from such diverse locations as Australia, North America, the Far East and Europe.

"South Hook needed a global player with an established reputation in this highly specialised field," commented David Harrison, Commercial Director, Schenker Limited.  "We will have a dedicated team to service this business which will enable South Hook to maximise their business potential on site and ensure that all deliveries from the QatarGas 2 project can be handled in the most efficient fashion.  We are delighted to have been chosen for this prestigious project.”

Mohammed Al-Naimi, Director & General Manager of South Hook, adds: “South Hook and the QatarGas 2 project is a major contributor to the UK’s security and diversity of energy supply.  As one of the leading international providers of integrated logistics services we are pleased to welcome DB Schenker as a partner in supporting our delivery of gas to the UK.”
