Spanish logistics group Azkar to be fully integrated into Dachser

Belief in Europe’s future incites German Dachser group to takeover the Spanish general cargo croesus Azkar

Effective 15 January 2013, the internationally operating group Dachser is to acquire the Spanish logistics service provider Azkar, which is still subject to the approval of the anti-trust authorities. Dachser acquired a ten-percent stake in its Iberian logistics partner in 2008. To Bernhard Simon, head of Dachser’s management board, the date of this investment in Spain shows Dachser’s belief in the future of Europe.

Azkar is one of the biggest Iberian logistics providers and market leader in the Spanish groupage segment. The company generated revenue of EUR 367 million in 2011 with a staff of over 3,000 working in 91 branch offices in Spain and Portugal. In addition about 2,000 external drivers are at work. After the takeover Azkar will continue to be headed by José Antonio Orozco and the current management team. For the time being, the company will also continue to operate under the same name.

The aim of the acquisition is to secure and continue the future growth of both companies. Azkar operates in the black in spite of the difficult economic situation in Spain. The enterprise has more than 500,000 m² covered logistics area and a fleet of 2,650 vehicles. Dachser is investing a three-digit million amount annually in the expansion and modernization of its logistics network.
